National Recovery Month 2021

This Year's National Recovery Month Theme: Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with mental and substance use disorders to live healthy and rewarding lives. Now in its 31st year, Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by those living in recovery. Are you hosting a Recovery Month event? Be sure to add it to the events database. Posting your event to the Recovery Month website allows people searching for events in your community to easily find it. You can also post photos, logos, and flyers to further promote your event.

Peer Recovery CoE Regional Peer Integration Survey

One of our goals at the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence is to increase the number of settings that use peer recovery support specialists. We want to see peer recovery support specialists in more places! We’ll be hosting Program Design & Implementation Institutes in the near future geared toward assisting various settings looking to offer peer services. We want feedback from YOU to determine strengths and needs of organizations, communities and states to integrate peer recovery support services. Let us know which settings you feel are high priority in your region. Take the short survey here!

We are well into Summer 2021! While the pandemic is not entirely behind us, for many, we are beginning to return to a fuller life—catching up with old friends, seeing family, and exploring the world beyond our home. How are you experiencing this new found freedom? Did you discover new skills and strengths within yourself while coping with the isolation of quarantine? How has your interaction with self-care evolved over the last year? How do you manage wellness? We want to hear from you! Click here to share your best self-care techniques, we will publish the list in the August edition of Recovery Reader. We hope to connect our community by sharing our strengths and experience.

July Podcast Episode!

We invite you to give a listen to Recovery Talk, the PR CoE’s podcast that shares stories and information to provide hope and resources to the field of peer recovery. This marks the third episode in a 6-month series where we have the privilege of hearing the story of someone thriving in long-term recovery. In each episode, we speak with a member of the PR CoE about their journey and exploring the power of recovery. In this episode, we have the honor of speaking with Nell Hurley, a member of our Peer-Led Steering Committee. Nell has worked in the peer recovery space for over a decade and is an expert in developing vibrant recovery community organizations. She is passionate about recovery from addiction, fitness, and helping people meet their goals.
